Management of the Painful Hemiplegic Shoulder in the Stroke Population
DESCRIPTION
Hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP) is a common occurrence after a stroke, it not only generates pain it limits daily living activities. This webinar will discuss prevalence and clinical presentation of the painful hemiplegic shoulder, risk factor groups, evaluation and evidence-based intervention techniques such as mobilizations, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), taping, edema management and mental imagery. Participants will learn how to structure intervention sessions for the painful hemiplegic shoulder and will be exposed to case study examples to enhance learning and facilitation of these techniques. Patient, family member and staff educational options are reviewed for each intervention method and home exercise programs during the rehabilitation process are discussed.
