Lisa Ottomanelli, PhD, a clinical psychologist at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital & Clinics in Tampa, Florida, delivered the 2023 NIDILRR Invited Lecture for CROR¡¯s RRTC on Employment for Persons with Physical Disabilities on September 11.

Shirley Ryan ÄÛBÑо¿Ôº has received a $4.2 million, 5-year grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation ÄÛBÑо¿Ôº (NIDILRR) to lead an international study exploring how differences in inpatient rehabilitation length of stay (LOS) after spinal cord injury (SCI) affect the experiences and long-term outcomes of people with SCI.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of the Variable Friction shoe on gait in individuals with chronic stroke and foot drop. During each 12-week phase of an AB-BA clinical trial, participants will walk for at least 30-45 minutes per day for at least 5 days per week at home.

A fundamental challenge in physical medicine and rehabilitation has long been measuring muscle force and stiffness, yet there are no rigorous methods for doing so noninvasively.

Our lab uses a number of biological methods to assess mitochondrial characteristics in muscles. The goal is to understand how alterations in mitochondrial biogenesis might lead to impaired muscle growth in children with cerebral palsy.

Our lab is interested in how their abundance and characteristics are related to muscle growth across different muscles in children with cerebral palsy.
