Our lab uses a number of biological methods to assess mitochondrial characteristics in muscles. The goal is to understand how alterations in mitochondrial biogenesis might lead to impaired muscle growth in children with cerebral palsy.

Our lab is interested in how their abundance and characteristics are related to muscle growth across different muscles in children with cerebral palsy.

Fischer, OTD, is now doing exactly that as a Clinical Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where she specializes in self-management for people with chronic conditions such as stroke and diabetes.

In mid-August, former patient Rob Heitz plans to swim the San Francisco Bay ¡ª from Alcatraz Island back to shore ¡ª to raise funds and awareness for the Paralysis Recovery Foundation, which he founded.
